I just had breakfast with a couple of the women that I taught with twenty years ago. It was an amazing gift to spend time with them and catch up. Although I moved away after teaching elementary school for 10 years and took a new career path, the people with whom I taught continue to be a point of connection.
There has been a longtime bond among many of the faculty. I have gotten to know faculty and administrators who taught before my time there as well as a few who came after I left. It is a community that continues to celebrate and mourn together. Seeing these women this morning was instantly a comfortable place, like a favorite sweater. I know not everything was perfect in the decade I spent teaching, but the memories bring me great joy.
I am grateful for the many different communities that through my life have shaped and formed me. I am grateful for the connections I continue to have with a variety amazing people who were part of various communities. I pray you have a community (or many) that you can find connection and joy!
