Seeping through the cracks

While on vacation in Florida this summer, we went on a tiki boat ride. The captain warned us as we were underway that there would be water washing over the deck and that foam would come up through the boards. The “boards” were synthetic and not wood, but they moved as the water moved under the boat. The cracks allowed water to come up from underneath, but also allowed water that came on deck to fall back into the bay.

It made me wonder if there are times in life when we need to be more like the raft/boat that water can come and go without compromising the integrity of the boat deck. Do we need to let things come and go and be more open to the ebbs and flows of life so that we too do not compromise our integrity? I wonder if we get so caught up in being right that we do not allow the water to wash over us and move back from whence it came. Do we take on too much water and begin to swamp ourselves?

Just some thoughts while pondering the foam on a boat while out looking for manatees and dolphins.
