Pruning

John 15: 1-9 talks about how the gardener prunes the vines. In gardening, plants often need to be cut back so that they can have better growth. Trees need it too. As several massive storms have rolled through the midwest, many trees and tree branches have fallen. Sometimes the branch just breaks, sometimes the tree is old or diseased and that is not known. Sometimes as storms have come, I have heard people talk about nature pruning the trees.

Trees need dead limbs cut away or the little tiny shoots that begin to grow. The tree has to put too much energy into those types of branches and it can weaken the entire tree. Keeping trees trimmed and cutting away the unhealthy parts makes the whole thing healthier.

What in your life needs pruning? Where do you have dead wood or new branches that don’t really add to the whole? Pruning is a painful process but often it is what we need.
