We have just entered the season of Advent. This is a season when we wait with expectant hope for the return of Christ. We have many traditions that help us await the child to be born and laid in a manger, but we are also waiting for the return of Christ. We know the imperfections of this world are not the end of the story, we trust God will continue to be faithful and so we work for a better tomorrow and we hold onto hope that God will break into our midst.
The nights grow long and the news is dreary, our world is in need of hope more than ever. The single candle lit on an Advent wreath this week is the candle of hope. Hope that the light will shine in the darkness and the darkness cannot overcome it. Hope that the light from a single candle can be passed on to others so the light will grow. Hope that the light within us will be rekindled to burn ever stronger. Hold onto hope. Hope is a powerful thing.
