  • Giving Thanks

“If the only prayer you said was ‘thank you,’ that would be enough.” ― Meister Eckhart As we are in the month of November and Thanksgiving is just around the corner. I am reminded through texts, emails, social media, and in person too, just how much I have to be thankful for. I have been

  • Remembering the Saints

All Saints Day and All Saints Sunday were rough for me this year. Six weeks after losing my dad, hearing the strains of “For All The Saints” brought tears to my eyes. Then as we sang the opening hymn (which I picked) “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling” the last verse got me.  Finish then, Thy

  • Grieving is hard work

As I posted a few weeks ago, my dad died. Grief is hard work. There are days that feel numb. There are days of feeling sad. There are times of feeling somewhat normal. There are days of feeling lost and untethered. Each day, each hour, each moment is different. And in part, what makes the

  • No new podcast today…

There is not a new podcast today. For the past week I have been with family. My dad had fallen ill and was in ICU. He died peacefully on Friday. I am heartbroken to lose my dad, just as I was my mom a couple years ago, however, he was ready to go, he was

  • Yesterday, the church I am currently serving held a blessing of the backpacks. We invited kids to bring their backpacks and we expanded it to invite adults who were starting new things as well. At the end of the day, all the tags had been taken and several of our older adults put the tags

  • New School Year

My kids started back to school today. Always some nerves. New class, new year, not quite sure what to expect, but off they went this morning like complete pros. I noted there was a confidence this year that was a pleasant surprise. There was a sense of I know what to do and an independence

  • Patience

Sometimes I have it, but often I don’t. I don’t pray for it, as it means more practice. Which is honestly probably what is needed. Over the past few weeks I have witnessed some people with incredible patience. Teachers who work with our kids and go over things until they understand. My son’s competitive soccer

  • Pruning

John 15: 1-9 talks about how the gardener prunes the vines. In gardening, plants often need to be cut back so that they can have better growth. Trees need it too. As several massive storms have rolled through the midwest, many trees and tree branches have fallen. Sometimes the branch just breaks, sometimes the tree

  • While on vacation in Florida this summer, we went on a tiki boat ride. The captain warned us as we were underway that there would be water washing over the deck and that foam would come up through the boards. The “boards” were synthetic and not wood, but they moved as the water moved under

  • Dude Perfect

For his birthday, we got our son tickets to the Dude Perfect tour. It was a lot of fun. Lots of music, sports, cheering, chanting and two hours of clean humor. I was interested however, that they did 2 endings to the show. They signed off with their signature, “Pound it, Noggin, See Ya!” and

One response to “Thoughts”

  1. I admire your willingness to trust God, and venture out into a relatively unknown future. As someone who completely changed careers at age 53, I encourage you to continue to seek guidance from the Spirit and go for it wholeheartedly! Your new career is much more nebulous than mine, but I have every confidence that your talent and determination will pull you through the most difficult times. I knew when it was time for me to change. God will also lead you through each new step. It’s been my experience that He/She/They moves quickly and decisively. Enjoy the ride. I cannot wait to see what you will do.
