  • Renewed by God

I preached yesterday on Ezekiel and the Valley of the Dry Bones (Chapter 37 if you want to read it again). We all have times in life that we feel dried up and perhaps even forgotten by God. Groups that we are part of may feel that way at times too. I LOVE this story

  • Spring…maybe??

It is officially spring, as of this afternoon. But, I am ready for the weather to match the season. Today was sort of spring like where I live. I worked in the flower bed for a bit and raked up leaves and pulled dead plants. The squirrels were happy with my efforts as later when

  • The Bible is full of stories about water. Creation, the flood, droughts, wells, and water from a rock. Water is critical to human survival. However, water can also be a destructive force (flood). One of my favorite stories in the Old Testament is in the book of Exodus. The people have just crossed the Red

  • Hydration…Part 3

Many immigrants choose to cross the U.S./Mexico border away from cities and towns. This often puts them in the middle of the desert. Aid groups have been placing jugs of water and food along trails commonly used, but over the past decade, there have been people arrested for providing humanitarian aid. They are arrested for

  • Hydration…Part 2

Many churches have worked with groups like Living Waters. These groups work to get clean water into communities in need and they do educational work within the communities so people understand the importance of clean water. In some communities, the water that is generated by the systems that are put in place can be sold,

Where I live, it has been raining on and off over the last 3 days. Nice gentle rains, not huge storms. We need the rain as there has been a bit of a drought in the Midwest or as the drought monitor map refers to Kansas as part of the high plains. The drought monitoring

  • What’s the Vibe?

When you walk into a church, a business, a restaurant, or where ever, do you get a sense of the energy or the vibe of the space? Heck, it doesn’t even have to be a building, maybe it is simply a group of people who are gathered. There are places and people who just emit

  • Antisemitism is alive and well in our current time. Our Jewish siblings have heightened security at all of their gatherings. Rhetoric continues to come forth that makes that need even more palpable. And this year for Lent, churches that use the Revised Common Lectionary find themselves in the Gospel of John. There are many phrases

  • Storms

After a week of snow and rain in California, a huge system that tracked across the upper Midwest and the northeast, and last night tornados in Oklahoma, many people across the United States have been through some serious storms. Historic levels of snow have made travel ill advised in California and many in parts of

  • Lent is a time in the church – 40 days before Easter (not including Sundays for those who will count calendar days) – when we spend time examining our lives. We are reminded of our mortality, that is why the marking with ashes and we can look at how we can draw nearer to God.

One response to “Thoughts”

  1. I admire your willingness to trust God, and venture out into a relatively unknown future. As someone who completely changed careers at age 53, I encourage you to continue to seek guidance from the Spirit and go for it wholeheartedly! Your new career is much more nebulous than mine, but I have every confidence that your talent and determination will pull you through the most difficult times. I knew when it was time for me to change. God will also lead you through each new step. It’s been my experience that He/She/They moves quickly and decisively. Enjoy the ride. I cannot wait to see what you will do.
