Living in Kansas City the hype this week is infectious. In my time living in the area there have been 2 World Series runs (win one victory) and this is the third Super Bowl run. The whole town goes crazy for its team whether folks have cheered for them through the season or not. It is easy to get swept into the frenzy. The buildings are lit to cheer on the team, there is merch everywhere, the schools have Spirit Week before the game, but it is a joyous, fun time. I swear people are friendlier and smile more as things are going well for the local sportsball team.
We get so excited to cheer for our team – and every sport does it at every level – and we band together. But it does make me stop and wonder why we can’t have more of this level of community and cheer outside of major championship efforts by paid athletes. What would happen if we simply chose to live more in a spirit of cooperation with the humans around us and were a bit more joyful most of the time? How do we find joy in life in the everyday things?
How can you choose joy today?
